If you have electric resistance heat (all electric heat except heat pump/reverse ac) it is equally efficient to heat your house with a blender or your thermostat heat. 1 watt in = 1 watt of heat out. This means in winter you can mine Bitcoin or contribute CPU/GPU cycles to #BOINC or #foldingathome for zero out of pocket cost in electricity. Your 90W spent on your computer is just 90W less your thermostat/electric furnace/space heater has to generate. Sounds counter-intuitive but it's not controversial physics, there's even a name for it, the law of the conservation of energy.
