This is just duplicating all the same mistakes of legacy media. Rewarding posts for engagement results in optimizing for engagement, which in turn results in more lizard-brain-grabbing content. Optimizing for engagement is and unforced error.
What is the ânew paradigmâ profit model for businesses on a sovereignty respecting protocol ⌠if itâs not lizard brain âeyeballz for ad dollarzâ?
Good products can have premium features. Small-scale companies with low costs don't need a business model that "scales". Common open source business models, like charging for support or hosting allow alternative monetization. User-run and premium infrastructure prevent hosting from being a cost center. Advertisers and producers of paid content (who need organic engagement) can drive their own engagement by producing useful content.
These are awesome ⌠but are they enough?
So either these ânew paradigmâ incentives alone (like what you mentioned, and others weâve always had) will grow to be strong enough (with Nostr in the mix) to overcome the inertia of âhow weâve always done itâ ⌠OR some (decentralized) version of disincentive comes into play that will push the market in this new direction.
What is it about Nostr that will disincentivize the lizard brain âeyeballz for dollarzâ revenue model from being âthe de facto standardâ to being âan unaffordable liabilityâ?
