something I love about teaching math that I've been thinking about recently is in a way it resembles proof of work.

I've found myself saying the phrase "I can't do the work for you" a lot recently, not because I don't WANT to help my students but because I DO want to help them.

when you can't do a certain skill in math, the only way to get better is to learn the foundations, and put in the time and effort to practice. There's no way to magically aquire this without doing the work.

it's just like Bitcoin. Not only from a literal POW perspective because miners need to put in the work to secure the network, but also in the studying of Bitcoin. There's no shortcuts in learning everything you can about it. Put in the time, and do the work. And Bitcoin will reward you.

I hated math at school, not because of math in itself, but because I had given up on understanding.

I’m grateful that one of my friend who was good at it, took the time to explain it to me (in exchange of English lessons).
