I just learned that one of the homeless persons working with us buys silver and uses that as means of exchange in the US. 🤯

I've bugged mallers about a strike debit card before and he seems very opposed to the idea.

They use silver because their phone is never charged when they need. :(

Maybe, if they make it through kyc hell. I don't know why, but strike and fold have been a nightmare to sign up for.

I finally got to use strike after resubmitting the same documents several times. I used it a couple times. Now my account is under review and I gave up. I just want to spend fiat when someone wants bitcoin. It was a good ux when it was working.

My understanding is that Block and CashApp do a ton of work banking the unbanked in the US. So yes.

Any chance you know anyone inside that I can reach out to?

Massive majority of the people who work on my crews (temps) at work are either homeless or very low income and I would say probably half of them use CashApp as thier main "bank"

Nice! What do you do? Do they use the Bitcoin part of it or just cash? How do they pay for things in the stores? Do stores accept cash app directly?

I am looking for more ways to onboard them into Nostr/Bitcoin. We also have several formal entities looking for better systems to collaborate on helping them out.

I think mostly the fiat side of things, but Idk, I haven't ever asked anyone directly. And some stores take cashapp payments from mobile devices, but the majority of people I know who use it use the cashapp card.

Wow! What capacity are you working with him?

Mostly advisory. We are trying to onboard them into Nostr.

We could try Bitrefill, but I would love to get something reliable for them.

BTC Payment is easy. The issue is that cellphone batteries don't last very long to have a bitcoin wallet ready when buying things. So they prefer something tangible that doesn't rely on a charged phone.
