Then why was the chant "no taxation without representation?" If people during the American revolution thought mandatory taxes were inherently immoral, then shouldn't their chant have been "no taxation without explicit individual consent?"

I imagine that it meant having a colonist-elected official serve as a member of the British parliament. What do you think?

By the way, I hate to double post, but there's no reason to hold the colonists' political views in high esteem if you have some reason to believe they were wrong. I personally don't believe that the founding fathers fully recognized the full extent of the rights that people have, including what they said about the right to freedom of speech.

Yeah I believe the founders probably had good intentions but failed at what they wanted to do. So far it seems their constitution hasn't been able to protect the rights of citizens in many instances.
