In what The AP reports is the first legal pushback since an abortion ban took effect in Texas in 2022, State District Judge Jessica Mangrum issued a temporary injunction against the ban late Friday afternoon in the case of unsafe pregnancies.

What is skipped in the joyous celebration is that nothing has changed in Texas. The abortion ban remains in place.

The fact that it was partially rejected by a judge is celebrated as a win, and the fact that the partial rejection was stayed is not mentioned.

This is what it has come down to: a temporary opinion of a court against one specific category of abortion is hailed as a victory.
