Oh boy

Your phone always listens to you and they use that to market to you

Also, cookies are shared and sold to advertising companies

This is within a 2hr timeframe. Never heard of this brand myself, and she would never look into or buy this item. We were not in the same place until just a moment ago.

google/meta stuff.

Do you use the same wifi? If so, you have the same home IP address.

Yes same wifi. So.. complete noob question.. that is stored somehow and can be utilized that quickly??

Websites you visit will store your IP address, for sure, and use it to feed adds to folks visiting other websites where they advertize.

Zap wasn’t going through on this post so I sent it to other one. Hopefully it went through!

Received with thanks!

Good lesson in upgrading your privacy stack. Some basic tools:

Orbot, Mullvad VPN, or IVPN on your devices

NextDNS

starpage.com instead of Google search

Tor, Ungoogled Chromium, or Brave for browers.

Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin, and Facebook Container plugins for your browsers

SimpleX or Signal for your comms

Simple Login for proxy emails

I definitely gotta look into these!!! Thanks 🙏

Yeah every option has trade offs.

I find that Brave Search and Startpage work just fine with Tor browser and Orbot, for what it is worth.

Never heard of starpage. So I clicked on it and I am being told "Content blocked. Please turn of ad blocker." I take that to mean that I am doing it right. 😄

Huh, strange. I can access Startpage regardless of my ad blockers or of I am on Tor. But yes, you are probably doing something right ✌
