Principle to remember from history: new factors, especially technological ones, can disrupt existing institutions, even those that seem immortal or irreplaceable, and replace them with new ones. Thus, the modern nation-state could not have been born without the printing press, which disrupted the institutions that preceded it.

Similarly, the Internet is a printing press on steroids, and is already overturning the foundations of nation-states and opens the door to new forms of governance
