Setting 2-3 for each category would be ideal.
Since the outbox refactor you'll see amethyst connecting to 100s of relays but that's automatic. It's the relays that other nostr users have set in their profile.
Im using Primal and Damus for mobile — currently I added 15 relays from a Reddit post that had a list of relays but now I’m wondering if adding so many at once is overkill haha

most people run 2-3, but i survive on primal alone, nostr’s my canvas, relays my lifelines.
I use to have about 15. After this update in this client i'm on you just add relays automatically when you follow people I know have over 1600 relays. So I see a lot of stuff & reach out to a lot of people. Some relays mirror other relays npubs so I see some stuff 2-4 times.
It can be excessive but if you want to grow your content having more means you reach out to more people when you post something. So seeing what you mainly put out I think you would want to add as many as you can & just deal with the spam on global feed as you go. Remember every client handles that web of trust me bro I told you about remember?
yes the web of trust! I’ve been trying to scroll through the Trending page on Primal and replying to posts I actually find interesting
What client are you using? I’m usually switching back between Primal, Nostr app and Damus — I’ve seen that most of my posts are either sent between 3 relays or will be sent to 11+ 😵💫😵💫😵💫
I am using Amethyst this is an android app. If I have to use a web browser one because sometimes I miss notifcations then I use https://satellite.earth or https://nostrudel.ninja
