Anyone notice lately that their global feed is stuffed with bot garbage like this? What is the solution, charging a small fee to create an nsec?

Only read from WoT relays for Global.
Haven't noticed this but many clients have implemented proof-of-work. Setting a PoW filter and/or enabling web of trust settings can help mitigate this as nostr grows.
Global feed is also determined by your relays. Anti-spam measures on relays are in their infancy but getting better. Paid relays have almost no spam fwiw.
