Politicians have not protected civil liberties for over 50 years. Warranties searches of electronic devices can only be protected by individuals using strong cryptography with no back doors. This is difficult to achieve, even for high-ranking government official's.

Part of it is education, but there is no demand to add cryptography to high school curriculum and governments tend to disuade people from using tools that make them more powerful.
