I am using my own home machine, a mac mini late 2012 where I run bitcoin core. Up to 18 peers doesn’t break a sweat, and I suspect the limit is given by my network specs rather than hardware. The OS is no factor, since bitcoin core runs everywhere now.

So just any computer will do then. Good to know - I have a couple of old laptops laying around, I'll try them.

(Funnily enough, these are the two laptops I was using back in the day when I first heard about BTC. I remember trying to buy around 100 euros worth of it (price was approx. 0.30-0.40-ish) "for the lulz"... and getting a message from wherever I was trying to get the BTC from that they couldn't accept my credit card because the service was for US clients only. So I just shrugged and forgot about BTC for years, and years...
