It's now quite cheap to publish a book, which takes out the financial risk.

The process of writing a book is valuable, even if you never publish it.

You're unlikely to make a financial return on it. From a financial perspective, it's a waste of your productive time/labour.

It doesn't hurt to just start telling a story & see how it feels.

I think deliberately writing it for yourself & letting go all ideas of publishing it go will help make it better.

Nice. I like this lens. You cap the downside, ie low financial risk, and investment is just your time. I would bet that you get a lot more out of it in terms of intellectual capital, which one day drives financial gains elsewhere

I think it’s the idea of a stake in the ground. I think like this, here’s why. If I am wrong, that’s ok, but here’s my story, and why I think it makes sense
