Why people equate federation with decentralization is crazy to me a group of people still have the power to censor and dictate who can and cannot do something just like Blockstream federation it's laughable.

it's splintered into neighborhoods that barely overlap. the people who call the whole thing mastodon are in one neighborhood with heavy-handed censorship, because that's the kind of experience that they want. the people in the other neighborhood don't call it mastodon and none of their instances run the mastodon software. they basically only block child porn and spam.
notice the picture with the jew star on it does not contain the pleroma logo, even though pleroma is one of the most popular implementations in use. the mastodon people pretend that everyone who is using pleroma is a reprobate. some mastodon instances are configured to automatically defederate from any instance that happens to run pleroma. they have even published fediverse clients for smartphones which are designed to malfunction when the user tries to sign into an instance of pleroma. some of these little commie freaks admit that pleroma happens to be better software than mastodon, but they are so afraid of being unpersoned for using it that they created a pointless fork called akkoma which they use instead.
