I actually started with Nikon! I had a D3200 and upgraded to a D5300 before migrating over to Canon for various reasons. My wife still has her D5200 as well. I prefer the build quality on the consumer level cameras in Nikon's range to Canon's as they feel more sturdy. I'll admit I haven't looked closely at their mirrorless line yet but I know they are pretty competitive. You'll find I'm not so brand loyal as I am too poor to afford multiple types of cameras.
