I was listening to a book about ancient civilizations and at one point they were talking about how everyone in Egypt was forced to pay the Pharaohs 10% (sometimes as high as 20%) in order to have the right to farm and live on the land. They would even fluctuate if it was a bad harvest. I’m sitting here with 30% income tax, property tax, sales tax, and a tax for everything else. Oh those poor ancient Egyptian slaves.
