A genuine deflationary spiral is impossible as there is a floor on deferred consumption. I can easily defer spending on a new car, but not on car repairs. I can easily defer spending on the newest IPhone, but not on cell service. I can easily defer spending on a dinner at a steakhouse, but not on food in general.
