Diamond Observatory

A Diamond Anvil Cell is a "high-pressure" instrument. The diamonds act as the delivery mechanism of extreme pressures (generated by vices squeezing the diamonds) but at the same time their transparency provides the window to observe the subject under test.

The diamond itself is the observatory as well as the instrument.

What is the kind of pressures are generated by such a device? 640 GPa. The pressure estimated at the very center of the earth is a mere 360 GPa.
