Why wouldn't a debian work nicely on a desktop?

Debian is all about stability. Meaning, you’ll lag behind updates to DE and other packages that desktop systems typically benefit from having relatively speedy updates to. Generally, the stability vs features trade off makes more sense in a server environment but to each their own :)
Yeah, true. But I really like desktop env to be stable too. Comes down to personal preference I guess 😁
Yeah, but it’s not like Ubuntu or Fedora suffers from an unstable desktop environment. :)
The desktop not crashing isn't the only thing when it comes to stability and reliability.
Support for third party software and especially software repos, extensions and themes are always kinda broken on newer Gnome versions, etc
