Self-hosting Postfix for just outgoing e-mail sending is simple. Just make sure to confgure TLS and IP whitelist or auth to not create open relay.

Did that in the past, but setting up all the bells and whistles required to not end up in spam folders was too tiring and just not my kind of expertise. 😬

For that most important is SPF DNS TXT records. You will need to do it with any SMTP provider anyway, unless you also delegate handling DNS to them.

DKIM and DEMARC would be the next steps after SPF

But SPF is way more important.

Got it all set up and working now, cannot say that I enjoyed it, but learned a few things along the way. I now know for sure, why I avoided running my own SMTP server. 😬
