And for this, they want my cell number. No. Looking forward for a strong Substack competitor built on nostr.

Nostr already supports long form notes and has several clients you could call substack competitors. Check out habla and yakihonne.

Promising, yes, but they aren’t contenders to take on Substack.

What do you think is missing? Just the size of audience/engagement?

Tools, features, UX, reliability.

I write on habla-dot-news first, then copy and paste it to Substack.

Substack has the lion's share of the network effects, but I get paid on nostr. I'm not sure how the paid subscriptions work on Substack because nobody has subscribed to my substack like that before.

We need a way to notify readers of new articles in nostr, perhaps a nip04 message sent to subscribers? I'm not sure yet.

do you consider email a requirement for a nostr-based substack alternative?

I can understand if the anwer is "yes", as there are many technologies which seem antiquated compared to the nostr-way, but they may be crucial bridges to onboarding people and content.

I personally look forward to the day when I will only encounter email as a historical curiosity.

I’m bullish on email, personally. It’s battle tested and etched into my daily workflow. But that could be a function of my age.

More generally, I do think serious writers/publishers are going to want it as an option to consider moving. The audience is there.
