After watching #[0] and #[1] talk on Freedom Money episode 1, I can’t stop thinking about 1 thing…and it’s how much Apple have me by the balls. It’s not an easy switch when you’ve embedded your family into their ecosystem.

Also very unsettling how much control they have via the App Store. At least Android devices can install APKs

Yeah… it’s a tough one 😖

Yeah you can install full 3rd party app stores on android.

And if you don't mind tinkering a bit a completely privacy focus OS like Graphine OS or something similar.

You can slowly start making the switch over.

Thankfully, building your digital fortress doesn't have to break the bank when buying hardware.

Secondhand and refurbished marketplaces are great.

- Pixel 4a for $250. Great for flashing GrapheneOS on to.

- Thinkpad laptop for $350. Install a Linux distro and start learning.

- Dell Precision workstations going from $300. Install Proxmox. Run containers for File Server, Vaultwarden, Nextcloud, Media and more.

- Wifi access point routers going for $50-100. Flash open source firmware such as OpenWRT or FreshTomato. Give everyone in the home strong wifi connectivity.

All prices in AUD.

You’re 💯 right. It has to be tackled in steps, slowly otherwise it’s very overwhelming.

It’s easy to trick yourself in to thinking it’s just finding replacements for a couple of apps, then when you start unraveling how much you’ve embedded yourself (especially when you’re sharing things with family etc) it becomes a bigger task altogether.

Low hanging fruit first, then one step at a time 🙏

Solid advice, zapped ⚡️

Here's a checklist I made that you can work through at your own pace.

This is awesome 👏

Good tips! The router one especially. All retail routers hijack your data. Open source firmware is a MUST. I love pfsense

what are your thoughts on CalyxOS as opposed to Graphene?

wondering if I should be switching from Calyx

Wow, never heard of Calyx. There are so many great options these days. Last time I messed around with Android the only real option was Cyanogenmod 😃

zapped you some sats ketan

Can you do a mesh network open source? I’ve found one router isn’t enough to reach my whole house

Gotta get to graphene os and linux life. Takes a little while, but it’s worth it
