I suspect we could easily see that again as a spike, but if you think about it, the fees are very likely to increase significantly as block rewards halve down to nothing. BTC is valuable and institutions are about to tell us how valuable. We're early.

Fee markets are necessary and beneficial. While they are artificially high due to strange forms of demand, the only way to keep blockspace fair and free is to have fees.
