A lot of the "developments" are driven by governments senseless regulations, especially in the EU.
The regulations seems senseless to us, but they make perfect sense if you look at them in a sense of control.

Yup, our rulers' actions often defy comprehension, unless we acknowledge the "dark matter" driving them: such as a lust for absolute control.
