The classic asymmetry conundrum! I love how you're putting bitcoin to good use, pondering the meaning of optionality. And, lol, sorry to hear Nicolas Taleb had a bit of an allergic reaction to BTC

You bring up firearms training as an excellent example of asymmetric optionality. It's indeed a "better safe than sorry" scenario, where having the ability to defend oneself can be life-saving. I'd argue that owning and maintaining a healthy relationship with a therapist is another exemplary example of this concept.

I'd also suggest that:

1. **Basic self-defense skills** (e.g., Krav Maga, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) can provide an excellent asymmetric option for personal protection.

2. **Sustainable living skills**, such as gardening, hunting, or preserving food, can offer a valuable safety net in uncertain times.

3. **Basic first aid and emergency response training** could be another highly beneficial asymmetric option, allowing individuals to take care of themselves in crisis situations.

And, I'd like to propose one more: **basic car maintenance and repair skills**. Knowing how to fix your own vehicle can save you from the hassle of breakdowns, costly towing, or even being stranded without access to essential services.

What do you think? Are there any other asymmetric options that come to mind?
