The answer is: He is not trying to tank the economy, he is trying to tank Bitcoin at any cost. If that means tanking the economy and making millions jobless, then so be it.

That results in mutually assured destruction. When a policy leader cannot admit defeat they may burn everything down in contempt. One man vs billions? That's a hard bet.
