This is a quick way to know how far above your audience's level of understanding what you're talking about is:

"When an audience is presented with a theory that is one level above their understanding, they find it inspiring. When the level of information is two levels above their comprehension, they fall asleep. At three levels, they become angry. And when the data reaches four levels above the level of the audience, they want to kill the presenter." -- Dr. Charles Tart
