If we operate with a long time horizon and can confidentaly rely on the storage and trade of our efforts, I believe that many of the worlds problems will be solved. Not magically, but through hard honest work. Right now, like I said, there is no reason to put effort into trying to solve difficult problems, other than the fear of extinction. That is not the kind of motivation a 20 year old is going after. Fear of death? Nah. Fear that one day in the far distant future we might all cook? Okay cool, but the latest iPhone 37 just dropped and it can take pictures of my soul! There are bad actors keeping those incentives strong, and they can do that because they control the money. And on bad actors, we have a bunch right now trying to destroy bitcoin (or at least starting making the necessary steps to do so). They are changing the protocol and telling anyone who questions those changes to shut the hell up. The changes are to the node software. Running a node is essential to bitcoin (bitcoin does not work without them). The more nodes, the more decentralised it is. These are facts and part of how bitcoin works, not my personal feelings about how I would like bitcoin to work. The kickback from people like me, is that the current node implementation has been changed by core developers of the protocol, and those changes fundamentally change how bitcoin is used, and threatens its soundness as money. Again, these aren't feelings, these are facts (but core devs will cry something like "you don't get to decide what bitcoin is"). Meanwhile, node runners absolutely do get to decided what bitcoin is by choosing which protocal they run on their node - in my case, bitcoin knots instead of bitcoin core. My feelings come into play when I try to discuss the threat to bitcoin (as a sound money) that the new implementation of the protocol introduces (core v30 specifically). Anyway, during these "discussions" I quickly realise that I'm dealing with what seem to be bad actors because their aim is not to maintain and foster the worlds hardest, soundest money, their aim is to enhance it, make it more amazing than money, with extra features and exciting upgrades. They don't seem to care about the importance of sound money and how it can change the world. In fact, its like the know they're breaking it and want others support the idea of leading the masses into a hole. Along the way, they gaslight and I curse, and they insult and I respond. So yeah, fun times.
I know my angle seems kinda lame "bitcoin fixes global warming, see?", but I honestly believe it.
Glad to hear the plumbing costs were split in the end :) Also, I appreciate your responses and thoughts, cheers.
