Constantin Brâncoveanu, ruler of Wallachia, his sons Constantin, Ștefan, Radu, and Matei, and counselor Ianache, were arrested in 1714 by the Ottomans. They were tortured and pressured to renounce their Christian faith in exchange for their lives. Despite the immense suffering, Constantin and his sons refused to convert. On August 15, 1714, the Feast of the Dormition of the Theotokos, they were beheaded in Constantinople. Their steadfast faith in the face of death made them martyrs for the Christian faith.
