Some people have stopped using em dashes in their writing because they don’t want people thinking that they’re using AI tools to write.
But if AI tools are so great, why would there be any embarrassment about people thinking that you’re making use of them?
I read a lot of Edgar Allan Poe as a child. His writing style -- replete with many, many em dahes and fairly complex sentence structure -- strongly influenced mine. I'm not AI and I'm not giving up the nearly indispensable em dash!
AI will never grasp proper usage of the semicolon; that leaves me in the punctual clear for now, up and until it does.
