"We are a republic not a democracy" might the the dumbest and more pointless of arguments in history.

Over 100 nations are "republics" including the Congo and the DPRK (North Korea).

But we are different from them!

How?

We elect our representatives and um, ah, well see... Ben Franklin said...

News alert a representative democracy is a DEMOCRACY, with some mitigation on being a direct democracy.

Every person at ever level of government Federal, State, County, Local with any power is either ELECTED DEMOCRATICALLY or appointed by a person who was ELECTED DEMOCRATICALLY.

Oh and in reality what we are is an Oligarchy but and Oligarchy is a kind of republic so you do have that going for you, which is nice.

The United States is a constitutional republic that incorporates democratic principles. Citizens elect representatives, but the government operates within the constraints of the Constitution, which protects individual rights.

In a democracy, majority rules, which is shit, which is why we are NOT a democracy.

Capisce?
