What does this mean?
Google and similar search engines are prioritizing direct answers (featured snippets, AI-generated results).
Media outlets and blogs are seeing a drop in visits. Some are responding with paywalls, newsletters, or premium products.
New strategies: data APIs, AI integrations, original non-indexable content, or migration to closed platforms (Substack, Patreon, etc.) or social networks like #Nostr
Irony: the web was filled with content to rank on Google. Now that Google and AI are "eating" it and summarizing it, the model is biting its own tail.
In the age of AI, fake news is the order of the day. Content curation will be the main task of journalism and the media.
Independent journalists will create their communities based on their professional reputation as curators.
