Perhaps more evidence that the tactic is to keep defensive positions hidden, though there’s probably also a bit of ammo saving firing that close.
Reportedly this was during a rout. They were pursuing fleeing Russians and had shot so many that they were low on ammo.
Strykers only carry about 400 rounds of ammo for the main gun. You run out surprisingly fast. And of course, you don't want to use every last shot.
Risky strategy due to the possibility of land mines. But every Russian you fail to kill today is a Russian who might kill you tomorrow. If you can kill a lot of them quickly due to them being in panick, take advantage of it.
