Ever seen mentions of war bonds in old war memorabilia or shows and movies? Yeah, the government used to offer bonds to fund wars and if the people didn't buy them there was no war funding.

Come Vietnam the war is so unpopular that they don't really even bother with war bonds because they know no one will buy.

It is no coincidence that we officially abandoned the gold standard in 1971. Fiat came to America to fund an unpopular war.

Somehow I doubt that bonds instead of inflation for war funding is the great Trump wants to get back to.
