You can already do that with lists. Even if you have not created lists yet, you can pick between Global and Follow lists to see notifications from. If you want the feature right now, you can create a list of the people you care most and that list will appear in the Notification filter.

The only issue is that you need to make a list in a list client, like highlighter.com or listr.lol
