Crazy good garden this year and so very thankful. But I seem to have a glut on the veg side of things as my farmer friends already keep me well supplied. So I'm considering turning my beds over to more unusual plants and more medicinal herbs instead. I'm going to chat with some chefs in town and see if they'd like some

edible flowers or whatnot, or if I can grow something specific for them. I've been harvesting every day, definitely in my happy zone.

What unusual plant or herb would you grow if given the chance?

Four of my five potato bags look amazing, the garlic is ready to pull, and the plums, figs, and apples are coming in strong.

My chicken coop is almost finished and ready for a fresh batch of birds from someone wanting to downsize their year old hens. I'm really ready to retire from a decade-plus of chicken tractoring; hope I can keep the yard decent by limiting the size of the flock on it and perhaps dividing up the yard into sections. We shall see.

The deer did finally discover the buffet ๐Ÿคจ so I've been trying to thwart them without getting yet another outside dog (my maremma died of old age, there's no replacing him).

Super enjoying the sunshine! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

How does your garden grow?

Looks very neat and organised!

I'm going to try to grow Wintergreen (asprin) and Yaupon (caffeine) next season.

A coffee-replacement that doesn't depend on long-distance international trade sounds like something I should probably have. Ditto for a non-Chinese & non-Pharma source of asprin.

Yes I love having something analgesic growing. Never thought of Yaupon though unlikely I could grow it here outside of a greenhouse. My coffee replacements tend to be root and mushroom based, but there's no caffeine there (for better or worse).

Which climate zone are you in, may I ask?

I'm in the PNW, zone 9

Why do you want to stop chicken tractoring?

Love the garden! ๐Ÿ’š

Mainly bc I'm tired of it but also I don't have large swaths of grassy pasture anymore and the kids don't want to give up their volleyball court ๐Ÿ˜‚

Oh, fine... ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ’š

How about rhubarb?
