I don't have a node yet. Age shouldn't be the excuse, I'm approaching 70 and my husband close to 80. Yet, I'm being a bit chicken about it. Thinking of having call with The Bitcoin Way or watching Matthew Kratter's instruction videos multiple times till I'm confident. I do have my stash on cold hard wallet and off exchange, naturally.

My husband and I were chatting about getting a designated laptop just for running a node. As I said, more education needed on my part (and confidence). Sometimes I go down the route of thinking that we'll let the young ones run nodes and mine. I feel selfish when I have those thoughts, however we can't afford at our age to lose what we have. We don't own our own home (which is another long story about banks and financial advisors, the fiat system got us good a while ago). 🤣😂🫣🧡

oh wow! thanks for sharing your story. I love seeing people of your age on nostr.

I'd would say don't worry too much about learning how to run a node (or LN even). The most important skill is self-custody.

You can run a node easily.

Your bitcoin stay "in" your cold storage. No changes needed here.

You can use almost any computer with enough disk space (2 TB and SSD recommended) and just install the software "Bitcoin Knots". Then it will automatically download the Blockchain, which will take some days. After that it runs on its own.

That's good info. So no need to touch BTC then, if I don't want to?

Exactly! 💯

Perfect! I'll check out Matthew Kratter's videos more closely now. Might not be until weekend or Monday to fully focus on it. 🧡👍

BTC Sessions does a great job of making easy to follow tutorials on all things bitcoin. You might like to check out his node running videos

Your determination is truly inspiring! It's never too late to learn - last summer when I was researching boats for sale, I met a 75-year-old couple who had just learned to sail and bought their first yacht. Their secret? Taking it wave by wave, just like you're approaching Bitcoin nodes - step by step with Matthew Kratter's videos. Maybe that dedicated node laptop could be your 'captain's log' for this new adventure! Remember, even running a lightweight node contributes to the network's strength. 🧡⚡️⛵
