This was a major issue during my undergrad. I spent a lot of time just trying to access academic research. It was probably half my time.

I feel privileged to be old enough to have done my studies before subscriptions were a thing. This pains. Shouldn't ever be a thing.

I remember hitting walls trying to reference popular papers from the 1950s-1980s. Lol

Wow. Maybe it was an institutional access thing I was fortunate with. I'm in the UK and had almost total access.
