This is the one thing about Psychiatry that I canāt get behind⦠boxing people into categories to find patterns. We are humans, our emotions & behaviours cannot be āsimplifiedā into categories. The DSM5 is a label maker of the normal human condition. It labels, & the byproduct is stigmatizing. It also increases risk of over-diagnosis & misdiagnosis, as human behaviours are complex, ever changing, ever evolving, & unique to each person. Conditions which were once labeled a ādisorderā, cause behaviours was not socially ideal, are now no longer disorders but labelled normal. The there is the pharmaceutical component; a group who has huge influence on the manualācontributing to massive bias & rank for abuse, all for larger pharm profits. Or placebo effect, where if person is wrongfully diagnosed with a condition, but said condition is written in their chart, the nature of the human brain with the newly acquired label will actually become a self-fulfilling prophecy where the person takes on further characteristics of the labelās identity. Then thereās confirmation bias from the medical professionals themselves. Did ya know if you grieve for death of a loved one past 2 months your given label of āmajor depressive disorderā?! Crazy! Every human is different, & each human has their own timeline to feelings, this canāt or shouldnāt be boxed into a timeline. There are many forms of normal within the human condition, and not every feeling or behaviour can be boxed.
