A good friend here in El Salvador, Tim, has sadly departed. He has left behind a monumental legacy, inspiring everyone here, whether they know it or not.

The Standard: our living room, our garden, our cafe, our home, is a blessed place. Brought to reality step by step. It is an ongoing project, an unfinished house where we all felt complete.

Tim was the personification of all the lessons I learnt in the lead up to my move to El Salvador. Which is why I found his company so compelling. He understood life so comprehensively that nothing could faze him.

He reinvented what it is to be a host. At first I couldn’t even find his place, it took two attempts. And then I couldn’t figure out if I was in a bar or someone’s living room. How to buy a drink? Then gradually it all made sense and I found myself to be in possibly the best bar/cafe/garden I’ve ever known.

Whether it was listening to his stories or receiving advice and his support, I would hang on his every word knowing how precious they were.

God bless you Tim and thank you for the experience. We were all so lucky to have you.
