The Voyage app's onboarding is the only client (I know of) that tried a different approach with hashtags /topic follows, rather than people follows.
The recommended follows on nostr are particularly offputting. They are either people from bitcointwitter who barely even post. Or people who are a tight clique here but perhaps offer little to no interest to someone new.
But then again you assume everyone is social media-savvy enough to know that user recommendations on platforms are typically not the greatest offerings, anyway.
The influencer clique here is the worst. They follow each other and talk to each other, but don't interact much with the second class citizens adoring them in replies and zaps.
I know right? Some of them even have a bot that auto likes your replies. They're farming followers like it's twitter. Fucking influence peddlers.
I was 95% sure guy swann was using a bot like that, and seeing you say that pushed it to 100%.
Yeah I followed a couple of them when I first started. They don't ever even see what you say. That's fine, sometimes you just want to keep up with what people are saying. Automated replies though, and that with meaningless emojis... I've got too much self respect to dick ride people who measure me as a statistic.
This has always been the biggest hurdle. I’ve been pitching BTC since it was measured in parts of cents, and it’s all about headache involved in getting your hands on it, especially in the way everyone tells you to do: physical custody.
If we can make this a lot easier, that’s a real game changer. Otherwise, the space will continue to financialize and that’s bad for our political/economic ambitions as a movement.
