Is Samourai an "excellent" Bitcoin wallet?

Depends. Are you at least a semi-pro user of #Bitcoin? Because if not then I believe it is a better solution to go to other wallets.

Definitely not "semi-pro" but I did set it up for a portion of my stack. I have definitely felt like I'm in over my head there...

I lean towards steel washers or paper wallets, not "devices" though. Not sure why.

Storage is one of the biggest fears, IMO.

Yeah I would not use samourai for long-term storage. By their own definition, it is a wallet "for the streets". But honestly, I find Samourai to be pretty mid. I prefer nunchuck. And Samourai social media boosters act like toxic, territorial dicks to anyone who points out their deficiencies.

But yeah don't keep hodl stack on a phone. Steel is real.

Is it cool to keep Samourai seed with passphrase and stamp that and delete app?

Or start over with new seed?

Best place to get the seed generator that is least likely to someday find out it's been compromised? 😂 Hard space to navigate.

Best way to go about it is to create a seed offline, either on a hardware wallet, preferably with dice. Without a hardware wallet, use an offline laptop booted into tails

More detail. Let's suppose you have a ColdCard or SeedSigner, both of which support generating seed from dice rolls.

Once the seed is generated, keep it secret on paper until you transfer to steel.

The device can then export all the public information necessary to create a watch-only wallet on an internet-connected device. This wallet has no private data, lets you monitor the balance, and can only construct unsigned transactions. It can also provide you deposit addresses with which you can continue to stack, all without a device that has your seed.

When you are ready to spend, you use the watch-only wallet to create the unsigned transaction and the hardware wallet to sign the transaction (either through usb connection/nfc, or more preferably, qr codes or sd card transfer)

Thank you SO much! I've never read a clearer explanation of this process. Now I fully understand the reasoning behind some of what I've considered to be "madness'.

Now it doesn't seem so unattainable...

My pleasure. Feel free to reach out in DM's for any guidance.

For watch only wallet you can use Blue Wallet (ideally connected to your electrum server) or sentinel (connected to your dojo) by Samourai.

Or nunchuck or sparrow or electrum

I guess I should start to tinker with nunchuck finally😉

If you don't want to associate all your addresses with each other (I.e. diminish your current and future transaction privacy), you will have to run their server platform.

This is the case for all mobile wallets with few exceptions.

But if you gonna run your own server platform, you may as well go with an electrum server, since so many bitcoin wallets support connecting to spectrum (e.g. nunchuck, green, phoenix, etc...)

And when I say "assoicate all your addresses", I mean ypu are sharing that data with Samourai, a for-profit operation with no transparency about what they do with that data.

Typo: spectrum

*connect to electrum

Excellent is subjective. Every signing device has trade offs, it is very good software nonetheless. Multi features for the very savvy bitcoiner.
