On this day in 1966, the Cream LP “Fresh Cream” was released (December 9)
The legendary trio’s debut studio album was a pivotal release in the history of blues rock, inspiring many bands in a number of rock genres through the decades.
On the charts, it went to #4 in Finland, #6 in the UK, #10 in Australia, #20 in France, and #39 in the US.
In 2012, the album was ranked #102 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of all time (the highest-ranking album by Cream on the list).
In 2019, Classic Rock ranked it fourth in their list of the best British blues rock albums ever.
Many prominent artists in the mid-1960s by rock artists included a Willie Dixon song on their debut albums, including Jeff Beck, Canned Heat, the Doors, Steppenwolf, Led Zeppelin, Hawkwind, and The Rolling Stones.
