-THE BITCOIN ISLAND LIFE-

Japan's floating airport, known as Kansai International Airport, was built on an artificial island in Osaka Bay and cost around $20 billion to construct.
It was considered an engineering marvel when it opened in 1994 because it was designed to withstand earthquakes and typhoons.
However, the island it was built on is gradually sinking due to a combination of natural settlement of the seabed and the weight of the airport infrastructure itself.
Since its opening, the airport has sunk more than 11 meters, and despite efforts to slow down the process, the subsidence continues.
Engineers initially predicted some settling, but the rate has been faster than expected. If the current trend continues, experts warn that the island could be completely underwater by 2056 unless further countermeasures are taken.
Continuous maintenance and adjustments, like raising the runways and terminals, have helped so far, but it remains a costly and ongoing challenge.
