Why is there an @america Twitter handle? Is there one for other countries? Who manages that, usually?

Who do you think.

I knew there was a @POTUS account, but havenโ€™t used Twitter for a long time.

The @POTUS account is handed over to whoever is president for that term. But itโ€™s not owned by the White House or anyone except a single company. And you just have to trust the company not to abuse its power.

Yeah, no arguments here about that at all. Iโ€™m just asking why there is an @america handle in the first place. I never knew about that, or any other country having their own handle. I didnโ€™t know that was a thing, or when it became a thing, or why that thing would be a good thing to exist, at all.

what is this ๐Ÿ‘€

This feels like itโ€™s crossing the line of the 1993 National Voter Registration Act (NVRA). Voter registration drives are allowed as long as they are conducted in a non-partisan manner and do not mislead or coerce individuals into registering. In other words, the person offering the commission must not be affiliated with a political party and must not pressure or deceive people into registering.

This has to be illegal on so many levels. But the FEC is so toothless they probably wonโ€™t even be able to enforce our own campaign finance laws.
