Well I’ve been having the worst experience.

Trying to get in on with nostr:npub1getal6ykt05fsz5nqu4uld09nfj3y3qxmv8crys4aeut53unfvlqr80nfm

Setting it up albyhub on raspberry pi, transferring funds, trying to open a channel, thinking I made a mistake, I opened another thinking I could just close as the funds were, after all within tx alby wallet, or so I thought.

I got no confirmation on «close channel», but I got the option to redeem Onchain Funds, this was very poorly explained so I thought it would redeem from the transfer address from the channel tx, really it asked for the address I wanted it redeemed to, I was idiot I know, but there was no indication that funds would be transferred out of my possession.

So I managed to transfer all my redeemed funds out of my wallet without knowing this is what this function would do.

Not receiving funds back on close channel I thought maybe I needed to add receiving balance so I opened an invoice to «pay with another wallet», I thought this invoice would pay the fee and place the rest in my saving account, I was an idiot again, transferred to much for the invoice to registrer so now the sats just sitting there in there invoice address, did not increase my «receiving capacity», the payment has to be exact, again I did not know this and there was no indication it had to be exact.

Then my albyhub started acting up, disconnecting not allowing me to reconnect. So I update raspberry and albyhub, now I cannot even unlock my wallet, can only ssh into raspberry, albyhub.service fails, updating albyhub and rebooting only freezes the raspberry when alby starts running.

I lost more than 500k sats trying to get this running.

Now they are telling me that if I cannot unlock my albyhub, I cannot retrieve any funds I still might have. I dont think I have any funds left, to me it seemed all my channel funds was transferred out of my wallet with the redeem function. I asked them to look at my blockchain transactions to confirm this, but they are either not looking, or not telling.

Like they could just look at the transaction and see what happened with the redeeming of funds… So then I’m thinking they are not telling because they see the funds are lost and don’t to come and be outright like yeah, those coins are gone, sorry for inconvenience.

I got fucked trying to wrap my head around this and If you’re an idiot like me.

I would not recommend.

I know this amount is not a lot, but to me as a student - I could’ve easily lived off this for a month or two.

GetAlby?

I feel like I got rekt.

I’ve been robbed at gunpoint and that experience was more pleasant than this.

Signing off for now, my albyhub won’t come back online, at this point this is way over my head and I do not know what to do, how to fix, I’m afraid if I try anything else I will just fuck up and lose even more so I’ll stop here.

I’m just left with the feeling that lightning wasn’t for me, I thought bitcoin was supposed to be for everyone.

I feel like those guys who’s been victim to pig butcherialbycams, like how could you fuck up like that? how stupid can you be?

Well I didn’t even need a scammer to lose my coins with alby.

If you have your keys, the liklihood of losing your lightning channel sats is very low. Be patient and seek help if you cant find the amswer yourself. Alby is generally very responsive and responsible. If they arent responding, keep pinging them every day so they dont forget about you, but they are probably scrambling to fix something.

I didn’t lose them, I transferred them out of my possession thinking it would do the reverse, transfer them back into my possession.

I used the wrong address to redeem not knowing what this function was.

As no warning message was given I didn’t think I needed to act with caution.

Usually when it comes to functions that transfer coins you get some kind of indication that this will transfer fund out of your possession, I got nothing, so I thought nothing of it.

Managed to find this function in albyguide and from I can see it’s lost.

So really keys or no keys, coins are not mine anymore.

What kind of address did you send the coins to ? You pasted it from somewhere right ?

Also, i dunno where you live but I’m envious of 500k sats lasting a few months 🤩

hey, I am happy to help.

but I don’t know what you are talking about here.

you tried to withdraw onchain funds and what did you enter? where did you think that would send your funds?

I don’t understand what you tried and why.

we have onboarding sessions to help, maybe we can help you there.

I thought I needed to input the address from which I wanted funds redeemed from so I just sent it all right back from where it came from «the channel funds».

Yeah I’m very much done explaining this, I’ve been trying to explain this to «Juanpaul» and «Roland» in customer support for a week now.

Like I said, I was being an idiot while I was doing this, so really it doesn’t need to make sense to you, there was an idiot was behind the wheel, mistakes were made.

I already asked for help, so this is just a report on how I feel about this, and I do not feel like an onboarding session talking about how I fucked up, how I made mistakes not knowing what I was doing, I know I fucked up, I do not feel the need to have this repeated to me.

and where did you get that address from that you entered there?

I don’t even know what you mean with the channel funds.

searching for your case, but maybe you want to join one of the onboarding, it seems you mix up quite some things there which pile up.

So is ur problem solved ?

nostr:npub1ermlnwmd9fs7l3n4fmc2yemn7d0dea7ftvuacwm2a4vc3w5c89rsua88qh I cam vouch for nostr:npub1xv8mzscll8vvy5rsdw7dcqtd2j268a6yupr6gzqh86f2ulhy9kkqmclk3x, he is a dev on getalby. Of course never give him your keys, he wont ever need that

never give anyone your keys!! never ever, and run from people who ask for them. :)

No doubt I see him on the GitHub

You don’t see me on GitHub?

I am user id 318 there.

or you see me? I am also bumi there.

but it’s good to not trust :)

we also can not look at your transactions. albyhub is a self custodial wallet, we don’t see your addresses and transactions.

to help you I need some more information.

for example it is just impossible that you paid a lighting invoice with an higher amount than requested. funds do not just sit in an invoice.

a lightning invoice is a very specific payment request.

I am aware of this, which is why I have provided you with all this information through customer service, more than once.

And I hear what you say, but still I copied the address from the invoice and sent the coins. You say it’s impossible, still I did it.

I have explained all the steps I made, everything I did, in great detail.

This is not me asking for support, I already have a case open with you.

This is me reporting on my experience and I do not belive that my support ticket will help with anything, I lost and this is me coming to terms with that.

I’m not quite sure how I lost, but I did.
