Because it's such a ridiculous question, unless I'm missing some context.
I think you got the context. I think he's just trying to make me doubt my faith. Like the serpent in the garden.
My answer was "idk maybe he was buried in them in the tomb" and he's like no no no he wasn't. I'm like okay dude, if we are to believe in GOD who created time, space, and matter I'm not worried about some cloth.

I think any sort of bad faith/low iq questions of this nature are an attempt to mock or dissuade someone from their faith, which is exactly the impression I get.
The source only makes it more likely... you could ask him how he really feels about Jesus.
