Our dryer crapped out. When my husband and I were working full time and raising a family, I would have called a repairman. From experience, the cheapest call is $250. We decided to get some help from ChatGPT and try to fix it ourselves this time. $4.39 new fuse did the trick. It pays to figure things out for yourself 😁

this is a pretty amazing story of deflationary forces (and a little hands-on ingenuity)
Can you publish the chat log? 🙏🥹
Doesn't need to be perfect - literally copy and paste is all i'm expecting
Awesome! DIY fixing is so satisfying. 👌

That was a great idea.
You've actually broke even with zaps in the USD value!
At some point in the future you'll have paid yourself a new dryer when it cost 1000 sats to buy one.
Good work!
Please take a moment to diagnose the problem that caused the fuse to blow before putting it back in service. Those fuses are a safety device to prevent overheating/fire. They generally blow because of poor air flow.
yeah but you could have stimulated the economy.
This is an expected benefit of getting your time back.
Suddenly you don't need to outsource everything to an expert.
Or - alternatively - you could stop wasting money and energy and dry your clothing outside (or inside) like millions of other people...
I rather waste a little money and energy than wasting my most precious commodity, my time.

I love that.
Same thing happened to me when the criminals at a toyota dealership tried to charge me $1900 to replace my AC compressor (best case scenario for them should be like $1200 with tons of profit)
Go sniffing around and come to find that sensors are a frequent failure mode and you can test them by putting a magnet over them. Lo and behold AC blows cold again. Just replaced the $50 and a couple hours of elbow grease.
Imo Fiat accelerates this type of deception. As prices rise and you have to extract value back, the quality of your diagnosis, approach and your soul itself gets degraded in quality.
Good for you! I spent a day last month troubleshooting / fixing my home central AC, and spent today fixing the 'ductless split' in my home office. The problem was in the compressor outside, and was relatively easy to spot this time! 😛
