Russia is basically Europe located smack dab in Asia, hence Eurasia. Eurasian history—that of despots and great emperors—frames the Eurasian psyche and sets it apart from its nation-building neighbors in the West. Indeed Russia builds the nation not as a social contract but as a testament of empire. Western analysis completely misses the mark with its reproach of Eurasia, for Eurasia is an ideal unlike the western concept of a social contract and more like a social duty such as manifest destiny.
