Don't know if Verlander will get there -- 42 is a lot in your 40s, but saying he's the last one with a chance is a midwit take. He's the last one with a chance *if current trends persist*.

But the idea that current trends -- increased velocity, shorter outings, shorter careers -- are permanent is unlikely. The pendulum almost always swings back.
